Rhys then progressed from being in the mix to starting to pick up some big wins. Victories at his home club of Mixed club champion with his mother, Junior club champion and Men’s club champion within the space of 2 weeks to become the first golfer to ever do this, even more impress at the tender age of just 19.
The big result came at the Durham county Match play Championship held at Wearside Golf Club. Rhys beat 6 golfers on route to the final, then beating Whickham’s Darren MCgaig on the last hole to secure the title.
The young golfer is currently in the Isle of Man representing the county, Next week he is playing the Lee Westwood trophy at Rotherham Golf club. We wish him all the best and look forward to further positive results.
